Slow Down and Prepare to Stop

I was driving down one of the back roads hoping to beat some of the traffic when I was met with a big sign that said, “Be prepared to stop.” Almost instantly the Lord began to speak to me. Most people are not prepared to hit the major stops and pitfalls in their lives. We face a myriad of different things that break our momentum in life. We get stopped when we get bad news from our employer. We get stopped when we get challenging news from the doctor. We get stopped when we are no longer content or connected to people or places due to tests, or our season ending. I’m a firm believer that God prepares you for everything that you’ll go through in life in some way or another. However, we often miss it because we fail to acknowledge or heed the signs that He gives us.
I hope to encourage you today. While this life has its many stops, know that they are mostly meant to slow us down. It’s in the slowdown that we get to know God more intimately. It’s in the slowdown that our answers come and purpose is revealed. It’s in the slowdown that we can make time to smell the aroma of the many blessings that God gives to us. Some of us are traveling at a high rate of speed and getting ready to have a head on collision. God doesn’t want that for you. He doesn’t want you to come to an abrupt stop, he wants you to slow down and come to the stop with ease.
“Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And he who hurries with his feet [acting impulsively and proceeding without caution or analyzing the consequences] sins (misses the mark).”
Proverbs 19:2 AMP
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance and advantage, But everyone who acts in haste comes surely to poverty.”
Proverbs 21:5 AMP
“Yes, I’m telling you these things now, so that when they happen, you will remember my warning. I didn’t tell you earlier because I was going to be with you for a while longer.”
John 16:4 NLT
