Relentless Temptations

There are so many things that tug on us each day for our attention. From family, to jobs, to everyday priorities and responsibilities, we are in constant motion trying to appease someone or something. But the question is, who or what are we really aiming to please, and what are we trying to accomplish?

There’s only one true goal that we should be aiming for in life, and that is to love and obey God. If what we’re facing is causing us to do the opposite, then we must begin to question their motives and the source of it. Because the enemy will often surge in when we’ve made up our minds to get on track and have regained our momentum towards making progress in the Lord.

The enemy is not going to stop his quest to try to harm and bait us. His sole mission is to steal, kill, and destroy. That’s why we cannot afford to play on his level or terms. We sometimes like to think that we can outwit him and beat him at his own game, but that’s not true. He’s the best at what he does and has been doing it for a very long time. The only way to win against him is to resist him and completely depend on the power of the Holy Spirit to help you.

Have you heard the saying that you can’t go to a gunfight with a knife? Well, you can’t go up against the devil without the power of the Holy Spirit. We need the Lord’s power to work within us to be able to even resist him. So, get your will in alignment with the Lord's and make up your mind that you’re going to fight the temptation that arises in your life. The devil ain’t gonna stop, so neither should you.

“So Sanballat and Geshem sent a message asking me to meet them at one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But I realized they were plotting to harm me, Four times they sent the same message, and each time I gave the same reply.”

‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭6‬:‭2‬, ‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭4‬, ‭7‬, ‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬
